Momfidence! cheers on commonsense parenting and sighs at the rest. How to worry less, wing it more. A.k.a. parenting by the seat of my mid-rise mom jeans.

A Mother's Day Pledge

May 08, 2008
Just read an editorial by a fellow who thinks on Mother's Day and Father's Day, parents should rededicate themselves to the mission of parenting. He even suggests a pledge:

"With God’s help always, I pledge my best efforts to give my child unconditional love, encouragement, and devotion to their enduring welfare. I will fulfill my responsibility to be an optimistic and responsible role model."

A well-said, worthy sentiment, I must agree. But isn't Mother's Day supposed to work the other way around, with children rededicating their honor, etc. to us? I'd say such an oath on their birthdays or January 1, maybe. But on Mother's Day? That's for breakfast in bed and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume (hint, hint)!
